Recently we sat down with IT Partners Managing Director, Andrew Johnson, to reflect on the companies 25-year journey – its beginnings, milestones, and the lessons learned along the way.
What inspired you to start IT Partners 25 years ago?
The inception of IT Partners was a combination of inspiration from my father, seizing the right opportunity, and being in the right place at the right time. The foundation was built on a passion for technology and a desire to create something meaningful.
Was there a defining moment when you knew IT Partners would be successful?
A pivotal moment was when people started approaching us, saying, "I want to work here; I hear really good things." This reinforced that we were building something special, a company that people wanted to be a part of.
How has IT Partners' mission evolved over the years?
It hasn't really, we still focus on ‘getting stuff done’. What has changed is the scale at which we operate. We’ve grown, refined our processes, and expanded our reach, but our core remains intact.

Culture is everything. The dedication, talent, and mindset of our team are the driving forces behind our success.
How have partnerships, clients, and vendors contributed to the company’s growth?
The saying "You are judged by the company you keep" rings true. Our relationships with clients, vendors, and partners have been instrumental in our growth. These connections have allowed us to evolve, innovate, and continuously raise the bar.
What has been your most important lesson as a leader?
Leadership is about surrounding yourself with people who can do a better job than you, supporting them, helping them grow, and demanding excellence. A strong team is the foundation of sustained success.
How have you stayed motivated and inspired throughout the years?
Work is a joy. When you find purpose in what you do and see the impact it has, motivation comes naturally.
How do you approach decision-making during uncertain times?
I trust my instincts and rely on the credit I’ve banked with my team; I know that if I make a misstep, the team will recognise my intent and support the path forward.
What are the most significant changes you’ve seen in the industry over 25 years?
The complexity of technology increasing year after year.
How has the company adapted to technological advancements and trends?
Investing in people has been our most valuable strategy. By continuously upskilling our team and fostering a culture of learning, we have been able to stay ahead of industry shifts.
What strategies have been key to maintaining resilience and growth?
Hiring for attitude has been one of our most effective strategies. Skills can be taught, but the right mindset and cultural fit are invaluable in building a resilient, high-performing team.
Where do you see the company in the next 10 years?
We're focused on preparing IT Partners for its next phase of growth, both in terms of scale and capability. This includes thinking about succession and ensuring we have the right foundations in place to support continued expansion and evolution in the industry.
And finally, what advice would you give to an aspiring leader or entrepreneur?
Know your worth and the value you bring. Identify who would benefit most from your expertise and align yourself with opportunities that recognise and appreciate that value.
